SSX 2026 accelerates green transformation, expands market access for Philippine MSMEs
Fresh off its initial preview at IFEX Philippines last May, the Sustainability Solutions Exchange (SSX) returned this week as a standalone powerhouse, opening a three-day exhibition at the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) aimed at pulling local businesses into the global green supply chain.
Running from October 15 to 17, 2026, the newly elevated trade event shifts CITEM’s flagship initiative from an advisory feature into a fully realized B2B market floor. The move comes as international buyers enforce stricter environmental compliance standards, pushing local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to overhaul traditional operations or risk getting priced out of global markets.
Rather than focusing solely on policy discussions, the exposition floor puts operational eco-solutions directly into the hands of factory owners and producers. Exhibitors from across the country are showcasing scalable technologies tailored to four core industries: renewable resource management, low-carbon architecture, high-efficiency agri-food biotechnology, and zero-waste circular manufacturing systems.
Addressing attendees at the opening ceremony, CITEM Executive Director Leah Pulido Ocampo highlighted that the standalone format gives Philippine suppliers a dedicated venue to upgrade their operational models. By embedding sustainability directly into their production lines, domestic enterprises can satisfy evolving global trade mandates while securing a resilient foothold in high-value export markets.
"At CITEM, the mission of export promotion is fundamentally about bridging the distance between grassroots local innovation and international buyer requirements," Ocampo said, adding that focusing on decarbonization, net-zero targets, and green transitions strengthens regional supply chain resilience and improves the overall ease of doing business across ASEAN markets.

Plenaries and Technical Deep-Dives
With the theme “Green-ready: Scaling the Shift for Impact and Growth,” the event is anchored in five strategic pillars that drive circularity across the Philippine landscape.
SSX also directly advances key regional frameworks, including the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA)—the world’s first region-wide digital governance treaty.
The opening day brought together leading policy directors, sustainability advocates, and industrial logistics executives across two plenary sessions. Panelists from UNOPS, BSI Philippines, WWF Philippines, Airspeed, and Monde Nissin examined strategies to align local operations with global green certifications while addressing persistent infrastructure and supply chain bottlenecks.
The afternoon featured five simultaneous breakout tracks anchored across SSX’s core pillars:
Habitat Track (Resources & Utilities)
Practical energy efficiency measures and greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint baselines under Carbon Footprint 101 were covered by leaders from the Department of Energy (DOE), Hive Energy PH, Integra RE, SGS Philippines, and Energy Development Corporation (EDC).
Urban Track (Built Environment & Smart Cities)
Experts from Italpinas, PE2/Climargy, WASTO Waste Solutions, and Mapúa University demonstrated smart building adaptations engineered to cut operational costs across retail, commercial, and hospitality spaces.
Engine Track (Agri-Food & Bio-Tech)
Meanwhile, resilient sourcing and export compliance strategies for sustainable agrifood processing were discussed by industry leaders from Philipine Association of Condiments Producers (PACPI), Artisanal Traders, and Envi-comm Corporation.
Recovery Track (Circular Economy & Materials)
Specialists from EcoNest Philippines, Oikos Sustainable Packaging, DOST-ITDI, DENR-EMB, Plastic Credit Exchange Solutions, Philippine Institute of Packaging (PIP) and PARMS outlined commercial bio-based packaging alternatives alongside a compliance guide on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) plastic governance.
Steward Track (Governance, Finance & Policy)
Speakers from Drink Sustainability Communication, SBCorp, BPI, and PTTC provided actionable roadmaps for sustainability reporting and accessing loans and green credit facilities.

The event will culminate on Saturday, October 17, featuring the grand finals of the first ever SSX Pitching Competition “Future Proof: The Green Innovation Pitch”. Five sustainable startup finalists will present their circular innovations, followed by an Awarding Ceremony and Networking Luncheon.
SSX 2026 is organized by CITEM, the export promotion arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and PTTC-GMEA, along with the Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Materials Sustainability (PARMS), the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS), and QBO Innovation Hub.
The exhibition and technical sessions continue through Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the PTTC. To view the full event schedule, visit sustainability.ph/events/show-info.
