Fashion ideas: Bags made with Upcycled, Natural Materials

For this season, we’re being called to go big or go home when it comes to the everyday bag

For 2022, The New York Times is urging us all to “grab a big bag.”

While the small bag will always be perfect for completing a casual or dressy OOTD, the big, voluminous bags will be the practical choice for every day. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that “convenient” and “comfortable” can co-exist with “chic.”

So whether you’re running multiple errands for the day or planning an outdoor trip to escape everyday monotony, the big, utilitarian bag will house all your essentials—from face mask to vaccination card and everything in between.

Here are some options from the FAME+ catalogue:

  1. Synthetic and pure rattan are weaved together in a kinameson technique, producing a hefty, rainbow-colored basket bag that’s great for market days. Large Market Basket, BINUHAT
  2. Made of recycled juice packs, it’s essentially a laundry bag—but what’s going to stop you from using it for your shopping and outdoor jaunts? Laundry Bag, KILUS FOUNDATION
  3. This bag has the basic tote shape and the roomy size for function. Using poly-line abaca, it’s waterproof and more durable. Abaca Beach Tote, ORIAS STUDIOS

  1. Made of cotton canvas, it also features a t’nalak accent that’s handwoven in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato in Mindanao. KVS Tote TG, KANVAS
  2. An oversized tote, it’s made of handloom fabric and leather. The large leather handles make it an easy-to-carry catchall bag. Tulum in Dusk Tote Bag, ETHNIQUE

  1. Sturdy abaca rope body is highlighted with a tonal vertical stripe and finished with brass hardware, cotton lining, and a faux leather handle with a matching detachable strap. Florence Abaca Market Tote, ANNIE AND LORI
  2. The perfect lightweight tote—think of it as an elevated, more stylish eco bag. It comes in a variety of binakol and kantarines weaves, with tropical icons to match. Tropical Tote, STUDIO SAMPAGUITA

  1. Handwoven rattan in a square weave pattern is framed in genuine leather. Full-zip closure, exterior back pocket, detachable strap, and an interior leather pocket complete the stylish yet practical design. Cruz Winged Tote, INNE STUDIOS
  2. Jute, nylon, and cotton combine to create this highly functional reversible bag. Buttons on the side help change up the size and shape, depending on your needs. Angelica Reversible Tote Bag, EVRILE
